An Introduction to Syriac Studies by Sebastian Brock
This Introduction aims to provide basic guidance to important areas of Syriac studies. The relevance of Syriac studies to a variety of other fields is explored. A brief orientation to the history of Syriac literature is offered, and Syriac is set within the context of the other Aramaic dialects. A thorough discussion on important tools (Instrumenta Studiorum) is presented; topics include grammars, dictionaries, the Bible in Syriac, histories of Syriac literature, bibliographical aids and relevant series, periodicals, and encyclopedias. The History, Poetry, and Genealogy of the Yemen by Elise Crosby
The History, Poetry, and Genealogy of the Yemen is the earliest known history of pre-Islamic Yemen. Attributed to the South Arabian historian ‘Abid b. Sharya al-Jurhumi d. 680 A.D., it recounts in prose and poetry six saga cycles of ancient personages and events of the Yemen. Here, two sagas, the dispersion of Sam’s descendants from Babel to the Yemen, and the destruction of the tribes of ‘Ad and Thamud, are translated with complete annotation. The tales of Luqman b. ‘Ad and his seven vultures, Sulayman and Bilqis, the Himyarite kings, and Tasm and Jadis are given in full synopses.

Title:The Texts of the Ugaritic Data Bank
Availability:In Print
Publisher:Gorgias Press

Since the publication of the Concordancia de Palabras Ugaríticas (1995) by Jesús-Luis Cunchillos and Juan Pablo Vita, new texts have been added to the Ugaritic Data Bank (UDB). Researchers at the Hermeneutics Lab compared different collations of the texts and used the computational tools of UDB to arrive at textual conclusions with regard to scribal errors, false scribal errors, reading errors made by the epigraphist, possible restorations, segmentation errors, and false Ugaritic words. This effort resulted in an improved text of the Ugaritic corpus.

In a series of publications under the series Publications of the Ugaritic Data Bank, the authors provide the following tools to Ugaritic scholarship: A Concordance of Ugaritic Words (5 volumes), The Texts of the Ugaritic Data Bank (4 volumes), and Unescrito y Variostextos Informàtica y Filología: Recension del text o ugarítico.

J-L. Cunchillos was born in 1936 in Novallas, Aragon, Spain. He obtained various doctoral degrees from Spain and Paris, and is a prolific writer, the author of 160 books and scientific articles. Cunchillos is Profesor de Investigacion of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spain, which is attached to the Instituto de Filología, Departement of Filología Biblica y Oriente Proximo. He is also the Manager of the Hermeneutics Lab.

Juan-Pablo Vita obtained his doctorate in Ancient History and Archaeology, University of Murcia, Spain (1995). He studied Assyriology and Northwest Semitic Languages at the Instituto de Filología of CSIC, the University of Leuven, Belgium, the Institut Catholique and the École Pratique des Hautes Études, France, and the Freie Universität of Berlin, Germany. At present he is Científico Titular of the CSIC at the Instituto de Estudios Islàmicos y del Oriente Proximo (IEIOP) of Zaragoza (Spain). His major interest lies in the field of Syria-Palestine at the Late Bronze Age.
