The Assyrians and Their Neighbours gives the history of the Assyrian Church of the East, as well as their neighbouring communities including the Armenians, Yezidis, Syrian Orthodox, Turks and Kurds.

"The Rev. William Ainger Wigram (1872-1953) spent much of his clerical career working with the Church of the East, and for years after the First World War he spoke to English readers on behalf of the modern Assyrian people and their claims to a just settlement. The Assyrians and their Neighbours, written in 1929, is his last book on the subject. In its style - breezy and attractive - it resembles his earlier The Cradle of Mankind (1914), but it has a wider sweep. Wigram was newly converted to the view, held by many Assyrians themselves, that they were the descendants of the ancient people of that name, and his statement of that case in the present book has become a classic. In the final chapters, we get Wigram's reading of the story of the Assyrians after the war. It exhibits the feelings of a churchman and friend of the modern Assyrian people who, after many disappointments, still hoped (and he was to be disappointed again) that they might have a place in the new state of Iraq."--J. F. Coakley, Harvard University, Author of The Church of the East and The Church of England (Oxford, 1992)
