Ephrem the Syrian: Select Poems by
The most important poet-theologian of the ancient Syriac Church, St. Ephrem wrote many works that are still in use today. In this handsome volume, twenty of Ephrem the Syrian’s poems are arranged in compliance with the saint’s understanding of salvation history. These poems, starting with paradise and running through the sacramental life of the church, are a proficuous introduction to the thought of Ephrem.

Title:The 1700th anniversary of St. Ephraim the Lyre of the Holy Spirit
Availability:In Print
Publisher:Independent

A concert of St. Ephraim’s hymns presented by the Syriac Music Choir proved so successful that requests were made for a CD of the music performed. This resulted in The 1700th Anniversary of St. Ephraim the Lyre of the Holy Spirit. Eight hymns are included on the CD. The first hymn is a combination of five melodies that constitute St. Ephraim's entreaties of Lent, a hymn well-known to many. The second hymn features different musical scales; the text is from Ephraim’s lyric about Joseph. The remaining tracks feature old Edessian hymns and other composed on the rhythms of St. Ephraim.

When arranging the hymns for performance, great care was taken to preserve their original form. Some of the hymns feature modern acoustical instruments in traditional musical arrangements designed to show their beauty and flexibility to many different listeners.
