Buy this book together with St. Cyril of Alexandria, A New Testament Exegete by Lois Farag
A panorama of Russian Christian spirituality, richly illustrated with passages from formative works. +This study portrays Cyril of Alexandria as exegete and theologian through an examination of his Commentary on the Gospel John. It begins with an attempt to place Cyril and his commentary within their context. This work argues that Cyril wrote his Commentary on the Gospel of John early in his writing career, almost a decade before becoming bishop. Cyril’s commentary on the Johannine Gospel reveals his exegetical method and his strong Trinitarian theology. The commentary also focuses on the nature and work of the Holy Spirit: the indwelling of the Spirit is the beginning of the newness of life.Save $48.75

A panorama of Russian Christian spirituality, richly illustrated with passages from formative works. Beginning with Russian monasticism up to the end of the fifteenth century, Bolshakoff, born in Russia and a lifelong researcher of monasticism, gives a tour of Russian spirituality in this seminal study. Individual chapters focus on St. Nilus of Sora, St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, Archimandrite Paisius Velishkovsky and his disciples, St. Seraphim of Sarov, Bishop Ignatius Bryanchaninov, and Bishop Theophane the Recluse. Interspersed with these biographically oriented chapters are studies of Russian monasticism in the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries, and also in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Startzy of Optino are considered under the nineteenth century and twentieth century Russian mystics conclude the work.
