Hunayn ibn Ishaq and the Kitab Adab al-falasifah: The Pursuit of Wisdom and a Humane Polity in Early Abbasid Baghdad by Sidney Griffith
With a focus on the Kitāb Ādāb al-falāsifah, a book of aphorisms attributed to Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq, some of the important aspects of the Kitāb are laid out, particularly those dealing with religion and the pursuit of philosophy. Although putatively, translators and scholars such as Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq, opened the way for philosophical dialogue between Muslims and Christians of Orthodox churches on precepts, often based on Aristotle, which they could agree would lead to wisdom and a humane society.

The Spell of the Logos by Mihai Niculescu
Origen’s construal of the Bible as a textual incarnation of the Word encourages an assimilationist interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures as a proto-Christian gospel. Although in partial agreement with this thesis, this study suggests a non-assimilationist reading of Origen’s biblical exegesis.

The Nomocanon of Metropolitan Abdisho bar Brika of Nisibis (d. 1318) is one of the most important sources for the canon law of the East-Syrian Church. In Canon I of the council held in the year 1318, under the Catholicos Timothy II, this collection was proclaimed the authoritative canon code of the Church of the East. For its importance, this collection is comparable with the Nomocanon of Gregory Bar Hebraeus, a parallel work for the West Syrians. It remains the binding legal collection of the East Syrian Church in the present day. The Nomocanon was the subject of numerous studies and publications.

Manuscript Trichur 64, is the oldest known manuscript of this work. It was written during the lifetime of the author and, as such, is of special importance. At the same time, it is the oldest dated manuscript in the library in the Metropolitan Palace of the Church of the East in Trichur.

Edited by Istvan Perczel and prefaced by Mar Aprem, this volume is introduced by Hubert Kaufhold who is preparing the critical edition of the Nomocanon. His introduction contains the most precise and exhaustive information to date on Abdisho, the Nomocanon, and the Trichur manuscript collection.

This second edition reproduces the original manuscript in color.
