The various stories collected as part of the broad stream of Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles have a complex translational and transmission history. As a result, the various translations of these stories are important because they may contain early strata of the texts. In an attempt to make one such translation more available, Paul Vetter presents here a critical text of the Armenian version of the “Gnostic Martyrdom of Peter.” Vetter supplements the text with a critical apparatus with variant readings from the four manuscripts used in the collation. Vetter also includes the Greek version of this text published by R.A. Lipsius. Appended to this article is Vetter’s previous announcement of his intention to publish the text of the Armenian Apocryphal Acts and his detailed description of the manuscripts used in the project. | |
