This volume, the author’s dissertation written under Gottheil’s supervision, investigates the numerous variants between the Syriac version of the Psalms and the Hebrew text in light of those texts themselves and with thorough reference to the Septuagint. The work is divided into two main parts. The first deals with external evidence for LXX influence on the Peshitta (mostly information about the origins and Nachleben of those versions), and the second focuses on internal evidence, including the superscriptions of the Psalms and variants between the versions. Appendices cover Syriac New Testament quotations of the Old Testament and give a grammatically classified tabulation of variants in several manuscripts from Lee’s text of the Peshitta (Berg wrote before a proper critical edition of the Peshitta was available). Throughout the work, the author provides copious references to the secondary literature.
