The Gospel readings of the Western Churches descend from the Capitulare Evangeliorum, a Roman collection attested from the seventh century. This book surveys the history and evolution of the Gospel Readings from then into the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, and proposes a revision and enrichment of the readings, based on the Capitulare, but adjusted to an Anglican revision of the Prayer Book, as was then proposed - thus adapting the list of Saints from the Capitulare's list of Roman martyrs to the likely Anglican saint.
