A reminder of the nature of archaeology at the beginning of the twentieth century. The present American School for Oriental Research in Palestine was then a dozen students touring the Eastern Mediterranean each winter. This report covers a single year of their finances and their activities. The highlights of 1903 included an expedition to Damascus when it was briefly free of cholera and two expeditions to Lebanon. Despite the sudden death of his wife, the Director made extensive observations of the topography of ancient Jerusalem. Table of Contents
