This volume contains a catalog of a total of 53 manuscripts, mostly in Syriac and Arabic, from the Leipzig bookseller K. Hiersemann. The catalog itself, in German, is prefaced by Baumstark’s Avis sur les manuscrits et fragments de manuscrits grecs, syriens et arabes du catalogue Karl W. Hiersemann, Leipzig, No. 500. Baumstark, who was very thoroughly acquainted with many collections of eastern Christian manuscripts, considered the collection studied here a significant one, especially for its Christian Arabic materials. In addition to the Syriac, Greek, and Arabic manuscripts, there are some in Armenian, Hebrew, and Persian. The catalog is made even more valuable by the inclusion of 20 plates, with texts and illustrations, reproducing parts of the manuscripts. This reference work will be especially important for scholars working in Syriac and Christian Arabic literature.
