This collection of essays by Pál Fodor contains his works on Ottoman history. Pál's focus is on classical Ottoman history – the sixteenth century in particular – and Ottoman dealings with Hungary in the tradition of the great Hungarian Turcologists. Pál studies the Ottoman presence in Hungary for its own local particularities and for what links it can show to the general trends of the empire's history. The individual articles, some of them appearing in publication for the first time, include works on history writing in the Ottoman Empire, the view of the Turk in Hungary, Ottoman naval policies and volunteers in the Ottoman army.
