The article was originally read before the Society of Inquiry on Missions at Princeton Theological Seminary. It was recommended to be made public. Preceding the memoir are accounts praising the memoir. It begins by recounting Brown’s birth and early education. He excels at his father’s seminary and attends the College of New Jersey at Princeton at fifteen. He comes to study medicine, but he finds a sudden pull towards religion. He changes course to study Hebrew and Bible. He comes to write religious works and preaches. He engages in missionary work in Virginia before returning to Princeton Theological Seminary to study German. The review prints a portion of his writing to demonstrate his abilities. Though Brown’s health is declining, his preaching skill improves. His death follows shortly. The article concludes with a summation of Brown’s life. He was brilliant and eloquent, dedicated in service of God. Table of Contents
