Throughout the history of Semitic cultures it has been customary to lament, remember, and commemorate tragedies in the form of song, poetry, and metric prose, and the present volume makes use of this ancient practice to give voice to the tragedies experienced by the monastic communities of Tur Abdin in the twentieth century. This volume is a collection of metric prose and poetry in Syriac written by various monks who have experienced and escaped the various trials that threaten the continuation of the ancient monastic communities in the area of Tur Abdin. The volume is edited by Julius Yeshu Çiçek, and the text is presented in a vocalized Serto script.
