John Bar Ma`dani (d. 1263) was an important leader of the Syrian Orthodox Church because he served as Metropolitan of Mardin, Maphrian of the East, and later Patriarch of Antioch. He was also a prominent figure in the Syriac Renaissance (11th-13th centuries), authoring several liturgical homilies and poems in Syriac and Arabic.
