From the beginning of printing in the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman minorities have always played a central role, and the same pattern holds true for journalism in the Ottoman Empire. This volume presents the contributions of Ottoman and Turkish Jewry to publishing and printing. Avner Levy discusses Jewish newspapers and magazines in the Turkish republic and Gad Nassi examines Ottoman Jewish journals. Yaron Ben-Na’eh’s article describes Ottoman Hebrew printing houses. Finally, Rifat Bali contributes a bibliography of works on journalism and printing by Jews in the Ottoman Empire. The book also contains a collection of images of Jewish books and periodicals.
