Henry Morgenthau served as the American ambassador to the Ottoman Empire for 26 months between 1913 and1916. After his return to the USA, he published his Ambassador Morgenthau's Story telling an account of his diplomatic life in the Ottoman Empire. Having appeared as serials in several newspapers and popular magazines in addition to having been published in a book format, his writings reached to a large audience and became the foundation for the American public opinion in the 1920s characterized by a strong anti-Turkishness, the impact of which is still visible today. In this book, Dr. Lowry discusses with evidences whether Henry Morgenthau’s account is a reliable resource or wartime propaganda aiming to disseminate anti-Turkish and anti-German thoughts.
