The relationship between the Ottoman Empire and the Safavid Dynasty in the first quarter of the 16th century is the primary subject of this book, written by specialist in Ottoman history professor Jean-Louis Bacqué-Grammont. This volume presents six studies previously published between 1978 and 1982, five of which are based on the author’s doctoral thesis. One of the strengths of this book is that it presents the reader with a great number of original documents from the Ottoman archives. Among them we find letters in Ottoman and Persian which here appear both in original, and carefully transcribed and translated by Bacqué-Grammont. With its thorough analysis and well of detailed notes, this book should be of benefit to scholars interested in the relationship and interaction between these two great powers, and of the history of Georgia in the sixteenth century.
