This monograph, by the explorer and student of Central Asiatic languages, Paul Pelliot, collects the Turkish and Mongol words, many of them for quite common animals, from the recently published edition by Stephenson of the zoological portion of al-Qazwini's Wonders of Creation. Pelliot offers many critical notes and emendations based on cognate languages, and collates with the list of zoological terms by the Turkish scholar Evliya Celebi, finding that Qazwini has influenced Celebi. A little-known, but irreplaceable, contribution to historical linguistics.
