The liturgy of the Syriac church is rooted in the ancient traditions of Jerusalem and Antioch. Compiled by the late Archbishop A. Y. Samuel (who brought the Dead Sea Scrolls to the United States in 1947), and translated into English by M. S. Barsom, the
Anaphoras gives thirteen ancient liturgies in the original Syriac text with English translation. Additionally, notes and comments describe how the priest and deacons perform the liturgy.
The Anaphoras includes the liturgies of St. James, St. Mark, St. Peter, the Twelve Apostles, St. John, St. Xystus, St. Julius, St. John Chrysostom, St. Cyril, St. Jacob of Sarug, St. Philoxenus, St. Severius, and Mar Bar Salibi. An Appendix gives various traditional prayers that are said on Sunday.
This edition is in color and contains diagrams that depict how the bread is broken in the form of the lamb and cross.
