The 1887 edition of Encyclopedia Britannica contained an extensive article on Syriac Literature by the late Professor W. Wright. The article was later reprinted in a book, with additional notes from Wright's own copy and suggestions written to him by eminent scholars as Duval and Nestle. While outdated, Wright's Short History of Syriac Literature remains the primary source of information on Syriac literature in the English language. ReviewsReviews
"Although William Wright's famous book is over a century old and so is inevitably outdated in certain respects, nevertheless his unsurpassed knowledge of Syriac literature, gained through cataloguing the very large collection of Syriac manuscripts in the British Museum (now, British Library), means that his Short History of Syriac Literature still remains an extremely valuable resource, and it is most welcome to have it made available again." - Dr. Sebastian P. Brock, University of Oxford
