Gorgias Ugaritic Studies (ISSN 1935-388X):

Edited by Nicolas Wyatt

Gorgias Ugaritic Studies seek to capture the breadth and importance of Ugarit for the understanding of ancient Syria and its surrounding cultures. Despite the common status of Ugaritic studies as a peripheral field to the Hebrew Bible, the language and thought of Ugarit stand in their own right as solid steps in the development of western religious thought. In this series, Gorgias Press publishes the works of scholars in the world of ancient Syria, its language, culture, religious beliefs, and ancient literary works fundamental to the contextualization of the Hebrew Bible and its interpretation. Tell Ras Shamra (Ugarit), still being excavated after nearly eight decades, is indeed one of the well-springs of civilization, bearing considerable significance for our understanding the prehistory of Greek and Phoenician religion as well as for that of ancient Israel. Its continuing excavation and discoveries promise further light from one of the most truly fascinating city-states of the Ancient Near East.
