Until now it has been an unfortunate circumstance that Arayathinal’s Aramaic Grammar has been difficult to locate in the western world. Perhaps the most comprehensive reference grammar on the Syriac language, this volume utilizes the Gaspey-Otto-Sauer method of language instruction, topically dividing the grammar into lessons with etymology, syntax, vocabulary, and exercise. These are arranged so as to link lessons with the previous lesson by overlapping the syntactical explanations. Covering both eastern and western dialects of the language, this grammar is as comprehensive as it is clear. Highly endorsed, this text fulfills the role both of a reference grammar and a teaching tool.

Thomas Arayathinal was a missionary in Malabar, southern India. His contribution to the study of Syriac began as a teaching tool for those in his mission.
