Mandaic Incantation Texts is the revision of Edwin M. Yamauchi's dissertation. It includes a collection of the earliest Mandaic texts, which are magic scrolls and inscribed bowls, dating from about 600 CE, together with transcriptions and translations, a grammar, and a lexicon.
Edwin Yamauchi received his Ph.D. in Mediterranean Studies from Brandeis University in 1964, where he studied under Cyrus H. Gordon. After teaching at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, until 1969, Professor Yamauchi taught at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) until his retirement in 2005. He is the author of numerous books including Gnostic Ethics and Mandaean Origins (originally published by Harvard University Press, and recently reprinted by Gorgias Press) and Pre-Christian Gnosticism.
