From the first centuries of the Christian era, Syriac was used by the main theological and historical writers of this tradition (Ephrem the Syrian, Philoxenus of Mabbogh, Thomas of Marga, and Barhebraeus). It also continues to be used in worship. |
| | De Catholicis seu Patriarchis Chaldaeorum et Nestorianorum by This book, originally published in Rome in 1775, remains the major reference to the history of the patriarchs of the Church of the East (Chaldean and "Nestorian"). The volume is appended by another work by J.A. Assemani on church unity. |

| | The Book of Governors: The Historia Monastica of Thomas of Marga AD 840 by This narrative forms a history of the monasticism and asceticism of the Church of the East in the countries east of the Tigris. | Title: | The Nomocanon of Abdisho of Nisibis | | Subtitle: | A Facsimile Edition of MS 64 from the Collection of the Church of the East in Thrissur | | Series: | Syriac Manuscripts from Malabar 1 | | Availability: | In Print | | Publisher: | Gorgias Press |
The Nomocanon of Metropolitan Abdisho bar Brika of Nisibis (d. 1318) is one of the most important sources for the canon law of the East-Syrian Church. In Canon I of the council held in the year 1318, under the Catholicos Timothy II, this collection was proclaimed the authoritative canon code of the Church of the East. For its importance, this collection is comparable with the Nomocanon of Gregory Bar Hebraeus, a parallel work for the West Syrians. It remains the binding legal collection of the East Syrian Church in the present day. The Nomocanon was the subject of numerous studies and publications. Manuscript Trichur 64, is the oldest known manuscript of this work. It was written during the lifetime of the author and, as such, is of special importance. At the same time, it is the oldest dated manuscript in the library in the Metropolitan Palace of the Church of the East in Trichur. Edited by Istvan Perczel and prefaced by Mar Aprem, this volume is introduced by Hubert Kaufhold, who is preparing the critical edition of the Nomocanon. His introduction contains the most precise and exhaustive information to date on Abdisho, the Nomocanon, and the Trichur manuscript collection.
This volume comes with a CD containing colored images of the entire manuscript. Table of Contents
