Bishop Lists: Formation of Apostolic Succession of Bishops in Ecclesiastical Crises by
Early lists of bishops, identified by Walter Bauer as "literary propaganda," mark critical points in the development of the doctrine of the apostolic succession of bishops. This study delves into the political struggles surrounding the lists and the doctrine they served to define. Ecclesiastical politics in each case reflects the threat to the bishop's authority and clarifies the meaning of apostolic succession in the Church's development. This social history approach, examining the function of the literature within its historical circumstances, reveals how theology developed from politics. The development is as gripping politically as it is illuminating theologically.

American Orthodoxy and Parish Congregationalism by Nicholas Ferencz
Orthodox ecclesiology doctrinally and historically requires that all authority in the church be expressed by the bishop. The unity of authority, based upon the laying on of hands, is the lived expression of the oneness and catholicity of the church. American Orthodoxy, however, does not have such an authority structure, especially on the parish level. This study explores the divergence of practice from doctrine in the American church. The study concludes with a theological discussion of the problematic nature of parish congregationalism in Orthodoxy. It points toward the already-realized conciliarity of supra-parish structures as the paradigm for a reformation of parish authority structures.

Gortyna is best known for its early Greek law code, but the larger site is a well preserved Roman-era city with a variety of surviving buildings and monuments. This paper gives a thorough overview of the topography and major building remains at Gortyna as well as inscriptions found at the site. Although Gortyna has been excavated much further in the intervening decades, this paper still presents a solid overview of the site as a whole and represents an important part of the site's excavation history.
