The Acts of Saint George, originally written in Greek, quickly spread to many linguistic traditions in the church of late antiquity. Presented here in vocalized Syriac and Arabic, the original text of the Acts is made easily accessible to readers of these languages. A detailed introduction in English summarizes the hagiography for those unacquainted with the Semitic languages. The account follows the hagiographic practice of describing the trials, steadfast faith, and martyrdom of the saint. Also included is the story of the father of Saint George, recorded in Syriac. |

A reception history of the Syriac Bible covers the ways in which it has been interpreted, the commentary tradition, its use in preaching, in liturgy, and in spirituality. An appendix offers some comparative samples (in translation) to illustrate some of the differences between the different Syriac translations. |

Julius Goebel was a professor at Standford until his mysterious dismissal in 1906. This article takes the Chronicle of Limburg, a record of the town of Limburg from 1336-1398, and demonstrates how this seemingly prosaic source preserves otherwise unknown German folksong and poetry. An interesting read for those interested in Medieval Germany and its arts. Table of Contents
