Al-Hikmah (1914-1931) was the first official journal of the Patriarchate of the Syriac Orthodox Church. The first volume was published in 1914 at the Deir Al-Za’faran Press, Mardin, Turkey. The journal was suspended as a result of World War I, then continued at St. Mark’s Press, Jerusalem, in 1927. Mostly in Arabic with a some articles in Syriac (and Ottoman Turkish in the first year), the journal represents the cultural live of the Syriac Orthodox Church during the first three decades of the twentieth century. Edited by Murad Fuat Jaqqi, its other famous contributors include Aphram Barsoum and Yuhanna Dolabani. | |
