Ciakciak’s dictionary is one of the standard resources for the study of classical Armenian. After the Armenian headword, Armenian synonyms are given, the definition in later Armenian, some brief examples of the word in use from Armenian literature, and then the definition in Italian; a Turkish definition is sometimes added for clarity. Some post-classical words are included, but they are marked with an asterisk. The author gives a preface in both Armenian and Italian, and following these, the Armenian alphabet and some grammatical reference tables: regular and irregular noun declensions, pronoun declension, regular and irregular verb conjugations. An Armenian-Italian list of personal and geographical names concludes the second volume. This essential work belongs on the shelves of every advanced student and scholar of Armenian. | |
