When Karl Macke died in 1915, he left behind an unfinished work presenting the Syriac text and Latin translation of eight hymns of the Syriac poet Narsai. While some of the Syriac hymns were thereafter published elsewhere, P. Maternus Wolff publishes here the Syriac text and German translation of three of hymns that were originally included in Macke’s work. In his introduction to these texts, Wolff discusses the manuscript sources of the Syriac texts and briefly addresses the possible influences of the work of St. John Chrysostom on these burial hymns. Wolff also provides an apparatus with critical notes and, when multiple witnesses are available, variant readings. Table of Contents
