A very old Syriac manuscript (dated 411) contains, among other well known works, a translation of Eusebius’s small book on the martyrs of Palestine. There are two recensions of the Greek text, a longer and a shorter, both of which have now been edited. The Syriac translation was made not many decades after the author’s death in ca. 340. In this volume, Cureton offers that Syriac text, printed in a beautiful Estrangela script, an English translation, and a large number of annotations of a historical, literary, and philological nature. The book will be of interest to scholars and students of fourth-century church history and of Greek-Syriac translation. Table of Contents | |
