Cyril ibn Laklak is an intriguing figure in the history of Egyptian Christianity because while he succeeded in consolidating some power in the Patriarchate, his reign was quite unsuccessful. While there are several sources for the study of his life, not all of these sources were previously available. One such source is a “protocol report” written by Cyril in which he provides a list of Egyptian bishops along with important historical information regarding those bishops. In the present article, Georg Graf publishes the Arabic text of Cyril’s work along with a German translation. In his introduction to the text, Graf also includes a brief historical survey of Cyril’s life and career. This text is important for both historical and philological reasons. It is important as a historical source because it compliments and adds to the information found in other chronicles of the Egyptian bishops, and it is important as a philological resources because of the nature of the language used in the text.
