John of Dara was an important thinker, author, and leader in the West Syrian tradition in the ninth century. He left behind various works concerning theological and ecclesiastical matters. In the present volume, Baby Varghese presents an English translation of John’s theological commentary on the Eucharist. This work is an important historical source for understanding the practice of the Eucharist and the symbolic understanding of the elements in the ninth century Syriac tradition. The Syriac text was previously published by Jean Sader, and this translation is based on that edition.
