The Tripitaka, the "three baskets" of Theravada Buddhism, contains 1662 sections in the Chinese version. A complete list is provided, from the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra at the beginning to the Chinese list of the other 1661 at the end. Each entry has the Chinese name (in characters and in Max Müller's transcription), the original name, the name and date of the translator, and notes. Appendices describe the Indian authors, the Chinese translators, and the Chinese authors of those sections added in China. This book is a valuable reference and a guide to the state of nineteenth century scholarship.
