This study presents Syriac data dealing with the Council of Nicea based on material from the recently acquired British Museum manuscripts from the Nitrian desert. Cowper edits and translates the texts along with a number of historical and philological notes; it is worth noting that the Syriac texts are given in a legible handwritten script. The texts presented include Constantine’s letter summoning the bishops to Nicea, his decree against the Arians, the Creed of Constantinople, the list of subscribers, and some canons. English translations of the Athanasian and Nicene Creeds are offered as an appendix to the work. The work will be of interest to any readers concerned with the Council and its reception.
