This volume, originally one of the Abhandlungen für die Kunde des Morgenlandes published by the German Oriental Society, is an investigation of the some of the letters of Ignatius, available in two Greek recensions but also a Syriac translation. After an introduction outlining the previous scholarship and the controversy over the authenticity of the letters and which recension is original, the author turns first to the patristic testimony to the letters and studies the relationship of the Syriac text to the other text families. Based on the work of Cureton and Petermann, the book concludes with a parallel critical edition of the Greek and Syriac texts of the letters to Polycarp, the Ephesians, and the Romans. This very detailed examination will be of interest to patristic and Syriac scholars. Table of Contents
