This volume includes both the original Syriac (and in a few cases, Arabic and Latin) and the complete English translation of a unique work in which Cyril Behnam Benni, Archbishop of Nineveh, presents the testimonies of Syriac texts, mostly from Vatican manuscripts, on the three related subjects of St. Peter, the Roman Church, and the Roman Pontiffs. The texts compiled refer to Peter’s roles and aspects; the Roman Church’s founding, diffusion, primacy, and inerrancy; and the succession, supremacy, privileges, and roles of the Roman Pontiffs. In addition to the work itself here translated, the copious working notes and explanations supplied by the translator will certainly be of interest to Syriac scholars and others involved in reading and translating the language. There are indices of manuscripts and books quoted, as well as for specific authors; a general index of names and subjects concludes the work.
