This essay, originally published in the Journal Asiatique, presents an overview of the then recently published Syriac text, Histoire de Mar Jab-Alaha (ed. P. Bedjan, Paris, 1888; reprint available from Gorgias), which concerns the travels of two monks of the Church of the East from China across Asia and of one of them even into Europe in the 14th century. Duval, with reference to other literature, gives a summary of the contents of this Syriac text and focuses on some of its details. This small volume will especially be of interest for readers to whom the Syriac text is inaccessible.
