Among the Armenian translations of Ephrem's works is a Gospel commentary; it was first published in the 19th cent. and a Latin translation (by Moesinger) appeared not long thereafter. This volume is a study of that text, and a driving question of the book is whether or not the Armenian commentary really belongs to Ephrem, and to what extent it follow the Diatessaron order of the Gospel narratives. The work includes the fragments of the Diatessaron cited in the Commentary and so offers a reconstruction. While the Armenian text has since been reedited, and more importantly, the original Syriac text was discovered and published, this early study of the text remains important for some of the questions it raises and for the data collected in it, not least of which is the Scriptural index to the earlier editions of Ephrem's works.
