Two volumes of chronicles of the Kingdom of Georgia with extensive commentary by the translator, a Frenchman who was a member of the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences. The contents are mostly from the chronicles attributed to, and possibly edited by, King Vakhtang VI of Kartli and his son Vakhushti. They comprise a history of Georgia by reign, from the legends of Shah Kai-Khosrou and of Alexander's expedition into Georgia up to the eighteenth century; a note by the translator extends this to the Russian annexation at the beginning of the nineteenth. Still a valuable source for Georgian history, indispensable for a study of the late nineteenth-century understanding of Caucasian history.
