Drawing on research dating back to the 1980s, Nedret Kuran-Burçoglu discusses the image of Turks in Europe from the fifteenth century until the present-day. Burçoglu is particularly concerned with imagology but her work draws on a number of other disciplines including history, philosophy, comparative literature and anthropology. The articles collected in the first part of Burçoglu’s book reflect on issues of identity, otherness and cross-cultural perceptions and show how each of these varied and altered over time. The second part is a compendium of the image of the Turk and Turkey in history and a bibliography of materials related to the subject matter.
