This work is written in the Judeo-Spanish language Ladino, spoken by Sephardic Jews, to describe the traditions and folklore of Turkey's Jewish population. In addition to collecting the proverbs and songs ascribed to the tradition, author Eli Shaul describes various facets of their culture as it developed from the time of the Jewish expulsion from Spain to their arrival in the Ottoman Empire in 1492. Shaul also includes a history of the origins of the Ladino language and Turkey’s Jewish community. Folklor de Los Judios de Turkiya is a milestone in the preservation of the heritage of the Sephardic Jewish tradition in Turkey.
