| | The Demonstrations of Aphrahat, the Persian Sage by Adam Lehto Among the earliest known sources from the Persian Church, the 4th-century Demonstrations of Aphrahat reflect a form of Christianity much closer to its Jewish roots than contemporary Western forms. Their mix of ascetic instruction, polemic against Judaism, and theological reflection provides an invaluable glimpse into this otherwise poorly documented period. |
| | Syriac Churches Encountering Islam by Dietmar Winkler Studies on past experiences of Syriac Churches in the Middle East and India, during the times of the Four Caliphs, the Umayyads, Abbasids, and the Ottoman periods, are discussed; the present situation and future perspectives are also analyzed. |
| | The Assyrians in Australian Archives by Stavros Stavridis The small Assyrian community proved to be loyal, dedicated and hard-working citizens to Australia during the years 1914-1947. This is the first time the Assyrian issue will be seen through the eyes of Australian official documents and hopefully raise awareness of these people within Australia and abroad. |
| | Tiamat by George Barton Tiamat was the Babylonian sea deity. The sea was affiliated with evil. Tiamat was therefore thought to be evil. As a result, the writers of Genesis 1 purposely omitted any wording relating to the word ‘sea’. |

St. Ephrem's commentary is one of the oldest surviving commentaries on Genesis, and its manuscript is considered one of the oldest surviving Syriac manuscripts. The text is in prose and represents the beauty of Ephrem's style. Sauma's edition provides the Syriac text with an Arabic tanslation. The volume also gives a long introduction to the Syriac exegesis in its eastern and western traditions. Ephrem's Commentary is useful for the general readers, the clergymen as well as for the student of Syriac studies.
Ephrem's Syriac text is edited here in Serto (West Syriac) and is completely vocalized. Each page of the Syriac text is followed directly by its Arabic translation. This will help the reader in following the text and its translation easily. The facing translation can also be used as a tool to study Syriac. Students not familiar with Arabic will find the vocalized Syriac text helpful in reading St. Ephrem.
