The Syriac-speaking churches of the East have a long and intricate history; this book traces them from the Jewish-Christian church of Jerusalem to the Church of the East, called Nestorian, who spread eastward as far as China, and from there to the Maronites of Lebanon, to the followers of Jacob Baradaeus, and to the Christians of Saint Thomas, on the coast of Malabar.
