The life of the Bishop Marutha of Maipherkat, or Martyropolis, as translated from the Armenian; with a useful selection of the other texts, in Greek, Syriac, and Arabic, which discuss him. Marutha was twice envoy from the East Roman Empire to Yezdegerd I of Persia; his theological work is preserved in the Church of the East; he wrote a history of the Persian martyrs, and tradition ascribes the name of his city to the number of relics he brought back. This compilation is worth consulting before any work on Marutha; the Life itself has many details of his missions not recorded elsewhere, and his miracles and his contests with the Magi illuminate the Christianity of the early fifth century.
