In 1896, a Bosnian notable found a grant of a territorial lordship in Kurdistan, near Diyarbekir, in his fanily archives. This gives a facsimile with critical notes, a full translation, and a commentary identifying the donor (of the Black Sheep Turkmen), the political circumstances of the grant, the future history of the grantee, and the implications of its sweeping terms, which provide that all the taxes in the region are to go to the grantee, and that his grant is immune from other taxes. Notes on the technical terms, and comparisons to the few other Persian grants, make this specially useful to students of Islamic land-tenure.
