This volume is a compilation of notes from six lectures on the development and nature of Sufism. The author examines the influences from Christianity, Neoplatonism, Gnosticism, and Buddhism on Sufism. He then explores the religion’s origins in its quest to avoid damnation, the ways of approaching Divinity, the classification and progress of the soul, the nature and abuses of sainthood, and the uses and origin of magic. He describes prominent mystics, the Sufi orders, and initiation. Along the way, the author notes that genuine Sufi saints are delightful to speak to.
