In a volume published the same year as this book, Le christianisme dans l’empire perse, the author had studied Christianity under the Sassanids. Here he turns to the same region but in a later period, that of Church of the East Patriarch Timothy I. Following an index to Timothy’s works (with descriptions, where possible), the first part of the work is divided into three chapters, the first on Timothy’s life, the second on the internal government of the Church of the East under Timothy, and the third on the Church’s missionary activity. The last part of the work is a Latin translation of Timothy’s 99 Canons, which are divided into three subjects: internal ecclesiastical matters, questions on marriage, and laws of inheritance. This volume, focused on an important period in which the Church of the East was very active, will be a welcome resource for students of church history in the east.
