As with other influential writers, portions of the works of Ephrem the Syrian made their way into the liturgical materials for the Syriac traditions. In the present article, Paul Krüger demonstrates the influence of the “rain prayer” of Ephrem on the Syriac liturgical tradition by tracing its use throughout various stages of the Syriac liturgy. Krüger pays special attention to the “Nestorian” Syriac tradition, but compares passages from all three major Syriac traditions.
