This work details the history of the Armenian province of Syunik, in the southeast of modern Armenia, by its thirteenth-century bishop, a member of the local family of princes. Included is a substantial history of Armenia as a whole from Gregory the Illuminator to Bishop Stephen's own time. Also included are several lists of the bishops of Syunik and other Armenian dignitaries. The entire second volume is the translator's introduction, with several genealogical tables and a lengthy survey of the present and former monastic institutions of Syunik, including numerous inscriptions.
