This work contains a full description of the Nestorian Stone in English. In the process, Alexander Wylie quotes the Jesuit and Chinese testimonia on the existence of the Stone, the existence of the Church of the East in China, and the Imperial Edict requiring copies of Scripture to be sent to the various provinces, and demonstrates that the language and the offices mentioned are consistent with the middle Tang dynasty. Wiley's work successfully refutes the opinion of E.E. Salisbury of Yale that the Nestorian Stone was a forgery.
